"The goal of spiritual work is the revelations felt in life, at least to the extent life manifests itself. One will not be aware of the transformation taking place within so that concepts of G-d will be grasped better and integrated more solidly."
"Like all countries living in dread of tyranny, America is in sore need of G-d’s mercy."
"Admire the talents and sensibilities that are earned by one's own work through exertion of the flesh and exertion of the spirit. Shackle mental habits in restraints. The 7th Day of Passover is the Rosh HaShanah for self-sacrifice. The hidden world is transformed into the revealed world by self-sacrifice. Freeing oneself of habits is a labor of self-sacrifice. One has the strength to accomplish it but has to want to actually do it. At all times, and in all matters, the power of self-sacrifice comes out victorious. One should work at self-cultivation, refinement of character, and sensitization of mind."
Now that Donald Trump proved our pharmaceutical manufacturers can put approved vaccinations on the table in 9 months we, and our government, should expect it in the future.
"The subject of one’s service to G-d ought to be oneself. Nothing in service should attract undue notice. The essence of service is intellectual endeavor leading to discernment. This is needed most in exile. Intellectual endeavor is the only key to discernment with regard to a concept of G-dliness. Actual performance is a test of emotions. Excitation is a test of intellectual perception. The practical aspects of service are affected more critically by discernment than by spiritual comprehension, or even emotions. Service can exist even in the absence of comprehension without the consequent excitation of emotions. Without discernment practical service is impossible. Service should reflect inner integrity. A servant is one who is humble, not one who is lowly. Those who ask “What is this service to you?” have been taken into captivity among heretics and atheists. If I happen to encounter a person who asks this question then it makes no difference who the questioner is. One who asks “What is this service to you?” is wicked and I must not associate with him. Service endows one with a certain degree of upright conduct, free of pride. Each year of one's life has its own distinctive service."
"Each day ought to be a real day. I ought to know what I have accomplished each day. I need to know what I have done already and what is still waiting to be done. Ensuring that every day is lived as a full day’s worth, G-d will surely see to it that the days ahead should be as luminous as daylight materially and spiritually."
"Say once what needs to be said concerning “that time”, not spelling it out laboriously day after day. For a Chasid to be a fool is a shame and a disgrace. A word leaves an imprint in all worlds. Harness the power of speech as an element in service. Logical arguments of untested validity give a man a foolish conceit."
The Commandments and Laws of the Red Heifer, the purity its ashes are able to affect, and the truth that the Red Heifer sacrifice will resume when the Third Temple is built teach us that, in order for The Messiah to come, purity will have to be extracted from impurity.
When I was 16 years old, I was named a Deputy of the Town of Tonawanda Democratic Committee. My first assignment was the candidacy of Harold Izard for a seat on the Erie County Legislature. He lost in a primary race. My second assignment was canvassing my neighborhood in support of George McGovern. One day I went out canvassing in the rain, on my bicycle, and wound up fighting pneumonia for a month.
I registered to vote as soon after I turned 18 as possible but I refused to register with a political party. I have not to this day because, to me, it's worth it to forego primary elections for the sake of my independence. For President, I always voted for the Democrat, until I noticed Barack Obama insisted on being vague about his position on Israel. I was ready to vote for Hillary Clinton, until she told the moderator of the 3rd debate that she wouldn't change anything to improve the economy's 1.5% growth rate.
And now the American Democratic Party is facing the very real possibility of nominating a candidate who is not even a member! Bernard Sanders can run in the Democrats' primaries but he can't vote in them. How could the Party allow such irony? Is it any wonder that Debbie Wasserman-Schultz endorsed Joe Biden? (as did Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg) She had no choice!
American Democratic Party betrayed me and, chances are, betrayed you too.
"Torah is eternal and uniform in all places and at all times. Torah does not vary according to place and time."
"Cleansing the intellect’s vessels purifies the body. Purification of the body removes the impurity. Cleansing the soul’s attributes refines the body. Refinement of the body makes it cleaner, including when one is “not pure” but neither “pure”."
Dear Miss OC/
I have never written a letter like this before. Due to recent claims you have made, I feel compelled to do so now.
There are some people who believe your characterization of the detention centers on the America-Mexico border, used for the overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants, as "concentration camps" to be "apt". I find it grossly inaccurate and vile. No one in these detention centers were rounded up for the express purpose of their death. There are no Zyklon B shower rooms. There are no repurposed pizza ovens. There are no starving slaves. And, there is no one drinking from toilets.
Instead of screaming about living conditions in these facilities, why are you not advocating for the truth about why so many are trying to get into America illegally, and why now? Why are you not pursuing something infinitely more constructive like "grandfathered" citizenship for DACA recipients?
I assure you that you don't have to worry about me. You should, however, worry about the angered Jews in your Congressional district. May your 2020 reelection campaign be blessed with a landslide loss as its result.
In commemoration and honor of Tammuz 12th, and 13th, the birthday, release from exile, and yahrzeit of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the Rebbe Rayatz, I am presenting here a series of teachings from this beloved leader of the Jewish Nation. I thought it would be best to begin with the Rayatz's thoughts on Tanya, the core of Chabad Chassidus:
"Tanya must be studied every day. Tanya arouses the might of the soul in whoever studies it. Studying a line of Tanya leaves its mark not only in the spiritual plane but in life too. Study Chassidus before davenen."
It is interesting to me that now seems the time to share my thoughts on a few aspects of Chasidism, and that you’re the ones to share this with. There are a couple of guidelines to lay out so that you’ll understand why I will skew things a certain way:
1. I came to this (was sent to this?) directly from 3 years of participating in sweat lodge ceremonies.
2. I have been me a lot longer than I’ve been this. I never intended to replace myself, only to enhance.
There are 4 spiritual Worlds, 10 Attributes, and 3 Garments.
A. The 4 spiritual Worlds are, in descending order:
Emanation (closest to G-d)
At the bottom of Action is our Physical Action. Our efforts and intent (based on our individual abilities) in learning Torah, performing Commandments, and Prayer, give us the power to elevate these to higher worlds.
B. The 10 Attributes, also spiritual, are set in 2 “groupings” (I wish I could think of a better word.): Intellect and Emotions.
The Intellectual Attributes are:
Wisdom (considered masculine)
Understanding (considered feminine)
Knowledge (their “offspring”)
The Emotions (sometimes called “character traits”) are:
Severity (sometimes described as “strength” or “might”)
Mercy (sometimes called “Beauty”)
Splendor (sometimes called “Humility”)
Yes, I know there are only 9 there. The 10th is:
Each of these 10 has these 10 within it (and above and below it) infinitely, and Sovereignty serves as the link between each 10. Also, each of these 10 has a physical counterpart.
So, here’s the story:
4-leggeds and other creatures live with their heads in line with their heart, so their emotions rule their intellect. But us 2-leggeds are created with our heads above our hearts, so our intellects (should) rule naturally over our emotions.
The object of the game is to act/behave/respond to every situation with an even-keeled outlook because everything that happens in the world, right down to your itchy knee, is by Providence. The bad that one receives is to be accepted in the same way as the good because the bad is really hidden good. I’ve been at this just about 18 years and it’s still not easy. This is where the Garments come in:
C. The Garments, how we express our emotions (and intellect), are:
The Garments are what we have to define and improve our character traits, how we relate to others, relate to situations.
I would give you more but this may be enough to get a picture. If you have any questions, I’ll see what I can do for you.
On the last day of Passover, the Rav at my shul delivered a maamar of the Lubavitcher Rebbe on the secrets of Torah as they were revealed to us by Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov. In the maamar (discourse), the Rebbe explains how the secrets of Torah available to us are not even on the level of secrets at all when compared to what will be revealed to us when Mashiach (the Messiah) comes. If this is so, then how insignificant is what I've learned? Even if I start today, with 57 years to complete 120, I don't know how I could learn enough to recognize them when they arrive.
If we knew how many days in the years of our lives would it help us recognize our missions sooner?
No house of prayer, regardless of whose, should need to be defended by weaponry. In the reality of it, however, extreme bravery and vigilance is necessary.
My previous lives wouldn't recognize me and I'm okay with that. The beatings I took on the way to who I am made me a better human. I've narrowed my focus to not making mistakes and even that is not perfect.
The 1 thing that makes me feel ashamed of being considered White (As a Jew I am Caucasian, not White.) is that Whites do exploitation so well.
